Sweet Pea, Cupani’s Original (Lathyrus odoratus)

Sweet peas are a classic and beloved heirloom flower. This is the original sweet pea, discovered in 1699 in Sicily by an Italian monk. Scented, heat-tolerant and bi-colored in deep maroon and mauve.
To grow: Soak seeds in water overnight, then sow 1” deep in sun in fertile soil in March. Provide netting for them to climb. Mulch to keep roots cool. Keep picking to encourage flowering.
